WandaVision landed on Disney Plus at the beginning of 2020, ending the superhero content drought caused by COVID-19 and paving the way for Marvel's foray into streaming territory.

Marvel has since released two more series on the streamer – The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and, more recently, Loki – but so far there's been nothing official on whether Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany's Vision will return to the small screen. And, unfortunately, it seems unlikely, especially since Olsen recently referred to WandaVision as "definitely a limited series" on Variety's Actors on Actors series.

Olsen was quick to point out, however, that she "didn't actually know for sure."

Of course, nothing is set in stone, but Olsen's comments certainly seem to confirm what Marvel boss Kevin Feige had already said during Disney's presentation at the Television Critics Association (via Collider).

He said: "Some of the shows that I mentioned that we are about to start filming, we are keeping in mind a structure that would lead into a season two or a season three in a more direct way compared to a show like WandaVision which clearly goes into a feature."

Said feature is 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will see Olsen star as WandaVision alongside Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme. Whether other WandaVision cast members, including Paul Bettany's White Vision, Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness and Wanda and Vision's two children will feature remains to be seen.

Will there be a WandaVision season 2?

It hasn't been confirmed whether WandaVision will get a second season on Disney Plus just yet. Plus, recent comments by Elizabeth Olsen calling it "definitely a limited series" seem to suggest it won't actually happen. Nothing is official just yet, but what we do know is that, if the show does return, it probably won't be for quite some time.

Elizabeth Olsen is currently busy filming her pivotal role in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, which is scheduled for release on 25th March 2022.

Depending on where that movie leaves Wanda Maximoff, another streaming show could well be a possibility, but Marvel Studios would want to give fans plenty of time to get caught up before they dropped the next chapter in her story.

For that reason, RadioTimes.com predicts that any potential second season of WandaVision would not be released until January 2023 at the very earliest.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, showrunner Jac Schaeffer refused to rule out the possibility of a second season, but stopped short of giving any concrete update.

"That is one of the things that I super can't talk about," she said. "I will just reiterate what [Marvel producer] Kevin Feige says: We set out to make a very complete and satisfying series. But with an entity like the MCU, you never know."

Who would be in the cast of a potential second season?

If WandaVision did get renewed for season two, Elizabeth Olsen would need to reprise her role of Wanda Maximoff, while Paul Bettany could also return as the whereabouts of so-called White Vision are currently unknown.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Bettany made clear that he loves playing the role and is in no rush to leave the franchise behind, as well as offering some hints as to where his android's story might go next.

"How do I do this without spoilers? I guess we've seen what happens to Wanda when love is taken away from her. And I wonder what that would look like with Vision," he said.

Teyonah Parris has impressed fans in her debut appearance as Monica Rambeau, but she seems less likely to return to the series, as its post-credits scene instead sets up her appearance in the upcoming Captain Marvel 2.

However, we could see allies Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) return to the WandaVision cast, given they aren't currently committed to any other MCU projects and have been a popular team-up among fans.

As previously mentioned, if Wanda's super-powered kids were to be brought back, it's likely by that point they would need to be played by two older actors so expect a recast.

Fans will be relieved that Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness did make it out of the first season alive, albeit trapped in the form of nosey neighbour Agnes.

Still, it's quite possible that Wanda, Doctor Strange or another prominent figure in the magical community could seek her out at some point in the future and restore her mind.

Hahn herself is supportive of the idea, telling the New York Times: "I want to [return as Agatha]. Now that I have a taste of it, I’m like, ahh... I really, really love it."

Here's a reminder of all the key players from WandaVision's first season:

  • Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff
  • Paul Bettany as Vision
  • Teyonah Parris as Geraldine/Monica Rambeau
  • Kathryn Hahn as Agnes/Agatha Harkness
  • Randall Park as Jimmy Woo
  • Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis
  • Josh Stamberg as Tyler Hayward
  • Evan Peters as Pietro/Quicksilver/Ralph Bohner
  • Julian Hilliard as Billy
  • Jett Klyne as Tommy
  • Emma Caulfield as Dottie
  • Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis/Mrs Hart
  • Fred Melamed as Todd Davis/Mr Hart

Could Quicksilver return to the MCU?

It seems unlikely that Evan Peters will return to the MCU given that his Fake Pietro (aka Fietro) was revealed to be simply a burned out Westview resident by the name of Ralph Bohner. Seriously.

When Peters made his first appearance in the series, fans excitedly began speculating that Marvel Studios could be crossing over its cinematic universe with that of Fox's X-Men franchise.

The American Horror Story star played Quicksilver in three X-Men films, and scored a humorous cameo in Deadpool 2, but it appears his tenure in the role is over.

Of course, Quicksilver could still return to the MCU in the future if Kevin Feige can persuade Aaron Taylor-Johnson to reprise the role, but there's been no indication of that happening so far.

What could the plot for Wandavision season 2 be about?

WandaVision

The WandaVision finale was a little more conclusive than expected. (This is your official spoiler warning.)

Some fans had speculated a huge cliffhanger setting the stage for Doctor Strange 2 – and perhaps even a cameo appearance from the Sorcerer Supreme himself – but alas, neither turned out to be true.

Instead, we got a relatively neat resolution to the events of the Hex, with the citizens of Westview finally released from their captive state and Wanda exiling herself to a remote cabin in the wilderness.

There she is shown to be studying from the Darkhold, a sinister text that holds within it information which could help Wanda master her powers – and maybe even bring back her family.

Indeed, in the WandaVision post-credits scene, we briefly hear Wanda's twin sons calling for help, which suggests that they still exist somewhere in the Marvel multiverse despite the Hex being destroyed.

That will be exciting for comic book fans, as Wanda and Vision's children grow up to become the teen superheroes Wiccan and Speed in the source material, both being prominent members of the Young Avengers.

The arrival of the youth-oriented superhero team seems imminent after some telling recent casting announcements, including Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang.

Therefore, it's likely the characters of Billy and Tommy will reappear elsewhere in some capacity, although it's possible the current child actors could be replaced by older choices.

The series has also introduced a number of other intriguing new details to the MCU, particularly regarding Wanda's powers originating from chaos magic and the fragile control she wields over them.

There is also a big question hanging over what Vision might do next, while some fans still believe that WandaVision may be secretly connected to the genesis of mutants in the MCU.

Expect more reality-warping antics in the near future and we wouldn't be surprised if Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness also made a return, given how popular she proved to be with viewers.

Is there a WandaVision season 2 trailer?

There's no trailer for WandaVision season two just yet as we're still anxiously awaiting word on whether it will even go ahead, but we could get our first look at Doctor Strange 2 in the near future.

The blockbuster is currently filming in London and aiming for a global launch in March 2022 (assuming cinemas are open by then), so we could get some images from the film over the summer - and perhaps even a trailer in the autumn.

Given that the sequel is said to have spooky undertones, a Halloween launch for the ad campaign would make a lot of sense.

We'll update this page with more information on the Doctor Strange 2 and WandaVision trailers as they come in.
